What is a Direct Cremation?
Direct cremation is a simple cremation without a traditional funeral service. It allows families to say goodbye in their own way, at a time and place that feels right to them.
We handle all necessary arrangements with professionalism and respect, keeping you informed every step of the way.
All cremations take place at our own privately owned Northumberland Crematorium.
Unattended Direct Cremation

An Unattended Direct Cremation is a simple cremation without a formal service, allowing families the freedom to hold a personal memorial at a time and place that feels right for them. We will let you know once a cremation date has been arranged, so you may choose to mark the occasion in a way that feels meaningful for you and your family.

- Care of your loved one in our state of the art mortuary
- Family visiting in our woodland chapel of rest (unlimited visits, during office hours Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
- Natural Wooden Coffin
- Unattended Cremation Fee at Northumberland Crematorium
- Ashes returned to you in person by one of our team
Attended Direct Cremation
£1,895
With the Attended Direct Cremation, mourners gather under the porch at the chapel entrance, where the coffin sits on our antique wheeled bier for a moment of reflection, accompanied by a piece of music chosen by the family or loved ones. The coffin is then wheeled into the chapel, where a second piece of music is played as it is laid to rest in the alcove under dimmed lighting. No mourners enter the chapel, and once the music concludes, the chapel lights are dimmed and the doors are closed.
This option still holds the simplicity of a Direct Cremation with a little added formality, with space for family and loved ones to gather and witness the committal of the coffin.
Witnessing the committal of the coffin in the chapel can add an element of closure to a Direct Cremation. Tribute flowers can be arranged to be laid on top of the coffin, or tribute possies or stems can be included for each family member to place on top of the coffin before the comital takes place.

Unlike many Direct Cremation providers, everything takes place within our own facilities — our mortuary, crematorium and memorial grounds — giving families confidence, continuity and complete peace of mind.
Included as Standard
Chapel of rest visits are included in all of our Essential Services.
Families are welcome to spend quiet time with their loved one in our peaceful chapel of rest, should they wish to do so.
Because your loved one remains in our care throughout, this can be arranged simply and respectfully — offering reassurance and the opportunity to say goodbye in person.
